Super T10

I just saw this add, and I know I may be in need of a transmission...

Would this work in my '82 Trans Am?

After all, didn't they come with a t10?

Re: Super T10

No, it won't.

Yes, they did. They also had torque arm provisions, which that one did not. Although it might be possible to put your extension housing on that transmission; but I don't think so, as AFAIK yours has the small (Turbo 350) output, but the ones in the 2nd gens had the large (Turbo 400) size. However that one looks like it might have the small spline, so maybe you could make one that would fit out of the 2.

Re: Super T10

Well, thanks for the reply...

What's a good tranny rebuild worth?

Also, his price seemed steep...

... was it a bad deal anyway?

Re: Super T10

I used to charge about $250 - 300 plus parts back in the late 70s early 80s to rebuild those. Typically ended up in the range of $500 - 600 dropoff to pickup.

Haven't built one in near 30 years though; couldn't say what people get for that nowadays.

Didn't pay any attention to the asking price of the one you posted. I'd say, considering that the last of those was made right around 30 years ago, that he'll eventually get whatever he's asking for it; so it boils down to, ya want it (that bad) or not, and have ya got the dough.

Re: Super T10

sofa is correct,3rd gen T10 has the same output spline
as th350(replaced my T10 with a th350)kept the T10
in my car for just past 100,000mi.after that the linkage
was getting worn and tranny would jam in two gears if
shifted wrong-would have to get out and get under...
(there is a song from about 1910....) also i think my
T10 had bearings spinning in the aluminum case as oil
kept turning aluminum gray and input bearing was
rough. My car still had a clutch pedal for years after the
automatic swap-that confused a lot of people

Re: Super T10

If you had put a REAL heavy automatic in there you could have used that as a retarder pedal. That might have confused some people even more.

Re: Super T10

Good idea! -actually it was kind of a "starter"pedal for
a while, never bothered to disconnect the clutch switch
for months after the swap;turn key to crank and push
the clutch pedal for the start
