Erratic Starting Issues

My car is carbed. Sometimes I can get in it, press the gas a couple times and it start right up. Most times I have to hold the gas pedal to the floor while I crank to get it to start. After driving for a little while, I can turn it off, wait a couple seconds and start it right back up. If I go inside somewhere for a decent amount of time it goes back to being hard to start. It drives fine. Any ideas on what would cause this? Carb is an Edelbrock 1406.
