Block and Head casting questions.

Went to change the starter the other day and saw my block casting was 880. From what i understand this is a mid/late 90s block for vortec engines. correct?

my head casting on the drivers side though is 14102193, from what ive read is these are the junk swirl port heads for a 305 TBI, correct?

so, how do i know for sure which engine im running, 305/350? Running a tune for a 305 and everything seems fine.

Any info?

Re: Block and Head casting questions.

My vortec is an 880 block. To make sure look on the back of the block on the driver side where it meets the trans. It will say 5.0 or 5.7. With an 880 block it should be 5.7.

There is a sticky in the top section of the Engine Swap forum with casting number information. Isn't always complete, but it will at least get you in the ballpark.

Re: Block and Head casting questions.

880 is the block for some of the later 350 TBIs, Vortec 350s, and some of the crate motors.

193 is the 350 TBI heads. (187 is the 305 ones)

Same stuff fits a 305 or 350 for the most part; tune-up parts, plugs, starter, and so forth. Pretty much the same, externally.

So im working with a 350 then not a 305 based on the head information?

Re: Block and Head casting questions.

I think its safe to say you're working with a 350. It's likely a flat tappet block, but it may be easily converted to roller if you're so inclined.

Re: Block and Head casting questions.

Think your right.

Runs better right off the bat on the lO5 tune. Im suprised i didnt figure this out sooner. BLM and INT numbers are pretty close to 128/128 after working on the VE and AE tables.

cant believe i didnt know sooner. Weak.
