smog or no smog
I am replacing the engine in my 91 with a 330 hp 350 vortec. I am putting headers on it and keepimg the TBI. I have a question about the smog equipment. Do I keep it or not? It is allot cheaper to get rid of it. Headers are less then half the price all I need to do is get the smog pump delete pulley and now my engine bay is clean. What else should I delete that I can still program a chip to bypass?

Re: smog or no smog
i removed all the A.I.R.equipment off my crossfire '82
z28,but kept the charcoal canister and EGR working.
Removing the A.I.R. eqipment did not affect ECM
operation or cause any noticable effects on engine
running.

Depending on where you live you might have to pass emissions inspection.... and it is against the law to remove it... I'm just sayin...

And it appears that you have no legal choice but to keep it. http://www.deq.state.or.us/aq/vip/whatstested.htm

Re: smog or no smog
if you are required to keep the A.I.R. equipment in
place in your location,i have wondered if they would let
you run an LT1 electric smog instead of the belt-driven
one-way back when i thought my crossfire might need
the A.I.R. active for it to work properly,i obtained an
electric LT1 smog pump and found it would be easy to
adapt the electric pump and hide the diverter valve, etc.
out of the way.The electric smog pump only pulled
about 5 amps as i recall.

Re: smog or no smog
Doubtful as it might be interpreted as tampering with the Federal Required parts & there would be no way to prove to them, despite a smog test blowing clean, that it sufficed on a L98/LB0/L03/L69/whatever engine.
