A "how do you do this" question
So I noticed that I was missing half of my torque arm mount when I started to try to get the exhaust hung up there properly ... I have the half that bolts to the extension housing, but it looks like I'll have to remove the extension housing to get the mount on. I ordered a new mount but I'm curious if I'll have to pull the housing ... which I'd rather not do.
Second question is are there any tricks to getting the trans cooler lines screwed into the trans while the trans sets in the car? I should have done this before I put the trans in .. but I didn't think about it at the time.
Also I'm filling my trans for the first time after it's been sent out for a rebuild, anyone have a guestimate on how much ATF it'll take to get 'er safe to start up so I don't run the trans pump dry?

Put a floor jack under the transmission pan (with a piece of wood between the pan and jack pad), hold the engine transmission up, remove the transmission crossmember. Slowly lower the transmission until you can get to the TA mount and cooler line fittings. It's a good idea to remove the distributor cap and set it aside before you do this.
If you just drained the pan, it takes about 5 quarts. If the entire transmission is empty, including the torque converter, it's about 11 quarts.

Re: A "how do you do this" question
Oh sweet thanks for the response. The trans did have some fluid in it .. but that's just to say there's probably a quart or two in there now. The torque converter was full when I put it on ... but emphasis is on the was. I'll probably put like 8 or 9 quarts in there and start from there.
Thanks for the distributor cap suggestion ... I most likely would have busted it off if you hadn't said that.

ugh doing trans lines on the 4l60 and doing the torque arm mount on the ground with stands and a creeper isn't something I would wish on anyone ... what a pain in the a** ... but I got 'er done. Thanks for the suggestion. Time to put the axle in, fill the trans and prepare for lift off. This car was missing so many parts ...
