What would vortec intake and heads do to stock a lg4?
Ok so long the title has the whole question. My problem is my 87 firebird lg4 is completely stock besides a $50 shiny chrome autozone aircleaner kit and back couple of feet exaust with big flomasters. I want more power and im broke. I dont want to cam my 305 because once I find a job im getting a 350, 383 or 400 if I save long enough.
If I get the vortec intake and heads for about $100 from pull apart I'll use em on my lg4 now, and rebuild them for when the new shortblock comes. But would it be worth spending my time and money putting it on the lg4 w/stock cam? Or would it not be good for its compression rate and really not do much performannce gain? Im looking for cheap cheap thrills and already did the gears. Any help appreciated thanks

If I were you, I'd save every bit of money for a 350. Rock the 305 for as long as you can until its done, or wearing out. In the end, you'll thank yourself for not spending a dime on an internally stock 305.
And for the record, 100$ can get you a complete stock 350, the rest of your money should go into machine work, and upgraded heads/intake/pistons/cam

If your budget is that tight, keep your money in your pocket for now. Agreed I wouldn't spend a single dollar on an internally stock 305.
A set of shorty headers and 3" y-pipe and cat-back would be money better spent because it would yield similar results (LG4 exhaust is garbage from the manifolds to the tailpipes) AND YOU COULD REUSE IT ON A BIGGER, BETTER ENGINE LATER.
A bigger, better engine like a whole, running Vortec 350 instead of just the heads. 155 HP vs. 275 HP is a real kick in the pants difference.
