'88 IROC 5.7 not getting fuel
'88 IROC 5.7 not getting fuel
Hi everyone,
Im a corvair guy and have some general automotive knowlege but I thought I'd ask you all for some help.
My brother has an '88 Iroc with a 350. Hes been driving it for 3 years now, no problems. Just last night after getting gas, it barely started and wouldnt run without having to keep your foot on the pedal. After 5 minutes on and off, it ran fine, and he drove it back to the house. Today I drove the car around the block and it was running kinda rough again but not as bad. As soon as I pulled it into the garage it sputtered and died. It will not start, wont even pop. Must be fuel or spark because its definitely getting air. I checked the spark by pulling the plug wire off the #1 plug, sticking a screw driver in the plug wire end and holding the shaft close to the exhaust manifold. I had someone crank the car over and I saw a nice bright spark. So the only other thing it could be is fuel. I sprayed some starter fluid in through the throttle body and the car started right up and quickly died.
After talking to my brother I found out he replaced the fuel filter 2 months ago so a clogged filter is out of the question.
What is the most probable cause?
Thanks,
Wyatt

just for the hell of it--did you check your fuel pressure?
First it sounded like your iac had to be adjusted until you said it doesn't even want to start--doesn't even pop.
Any headway yet?

Ohm your injectors first, then check fuel pressure. Its easier to ohm inj's, thats why i said do it first. If it started with starting fluid but wont start on its own i think it is safe to say your problem is lack of fuel. You can ohm them, but also use a stethoscope to listen to each inj to make sure it is/isnt working.
Are they the original Multech injectors?
