89 Camaro Spark plugs??

Need to replace the rest of my spark plugs and wires on my Camaro but they all hard to get to and shops around here want 167 to do it...which i think is insane, there a trick to changing these things, i got a chilton book but it dont say how exactly to get to them.

To do it yourself, buy or borrow a jack and jackstands. Once the car is up, you can go under it and access the plugs that you can't access from the top. An assortment of socket extensions/swivels will help. If you have TPI, take off the plastic cover behind the plenum (torx bits needed) just before the firewall to access the other end of the wires.

Just take your time and like majobis said go at it from different angles, with different sockets and wrenches. And if it applies to you, whenever I change my plugs i normally loosen the headers so I can get some wiggle room. If you have a stock manifold, or headers that have been on there long/don't have a gasket that is meant to be removed a lot, do not even touch those bolts! And when putting in new plugs, put a little anti seize on the threads so next time wont be as hard. Good luck, and you're right $167 is insane, for that price you can buy performance plugs and wires, and maybe even enough for a perf cap & rotor!

This is what I have used in the past for the hard ones. I slide a plug socket over the plug then I use the wrench to grab the hex end of the socket from the side.Once its broken free I remove the socket and then slide the old plug boot over the plug and back it out by hand. The primary reason the plug boot is there is so it makes threading the new plugs in on the hard spots sooo much easier.I found out that you don't want to push the plug boot all the way on the new plugs,just enough to hold the plug snugly that way its easier to remove the boot after its in.Trust me when I say the plug boot method works to relieve some of the times I have struggled to get a plug started and in.
Start with the #7 plug. (Driver side closest to the fire wall).If you cant get that one done than you may be better off just taking it in. There's a reason they charge $167.00. Most professional mechanics I know charge $100.00 a hour. So your paying them for about a hour and a half worth of there time.Thats it.
