Car runs better with SES light on?
Hey fellas. So yesterday I bought a shorter serp belt and re-routed it to eliminate the smog pump and AC. Not because of the power, but because I don't use either and they make noises that drive me crazy. The clutch on the ac makes a loud buzzing noise when it kicks on, and the smog pump had a bearing or something going out and made a grinding noise the entire time the car was running. On to the heart of the matter, I have an aftermarket intake that I had to disconnect to do the above procedure. I forgot to hook it back up before I closed the hood and started the car. As soon as I started the car the SES light came on and I immediately remembered the intake ducting and reconnected it. I didn't bother to restart the car to get rid of the dash light. Here's the strange part, the car ran great for the duration of the ride. Had more power than usual, idled smoother, and the RPM's would roll off faster when revved. The next time I drove it there was no code and it was back to running mediocre. Anyone have any ideas here?

ONly thing I can think of in the intake tract that would throw a code is the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor. They are known for having the little heated wire inside get contaminants on it and start to read a little funny. That's the first and really only thing that springs to my mind.

Re: Car runs better with SES light on?
I replaced almost all of the vac lines when I replaced the EGR valve a month or so ago. I have been meaning to grab some starter fluid and hose them down to check for leaks though. The car only seems to be a dog when it has warmed up. I don't have hesitation problems when the engine is cold, so I can only assume it's something that demands vacuum at operating temp like the egr likes to do, but I just replaced it along with all the lines going to it. After work today I'll clean off the ecm and see what code or codes pop up.
