oil in flywheel cover
repared a failed intake gasket and my oil pressure was very low.so I decided to put in a new oil pump.when taking starter and inspection cover off found about 10 tablespoons of fresh oil.I just got the car with this intake issue.I had pulled the engine out and looked it over. Its been run about 10 min with no signs of leeks till now.2.8firebird 89type.Can a bad dizzy seal leak that much oil.I see some signs of oil right behind it and when I had it out it looked drawn up.

Hi Bobby ,
I would like to second what RBob said , Heck ya , a bad O ring on the dist. will most certainly leak an alarming amount of oil in a very short time !
Recently , I pulled my engine for a complete cleaning and regasketing . I made up an oil pump primer from an old dist. As you can see in my comparison picture , the O ring on the primer was flat and squished compared to the newer O ring on my good dist........ Well , when I ran the primer with a drill , it only took about 20 or 30 seconds to put a good half quart of oil on my garage floor !
A new O ring installed on my primer solved the leak , and allowed me to assure oil to all (12) of my rockers prior to the first run of the regasketed engine .

also since you had to reinstall the intake I'd say you may have not gotten a good enough seal on the rear wall between the intake and lifter valley. Happened to me before I found out the seals they give you to put there don't work and you're better off making a gasket with rtv.

I had a leaking oil pressure sender on my Nova that oil ran down back, looked like a rear main leaking.

I dont know much about this engines performance before I got it,other than the po didnt put a long enuff bolt in the intake and the gasket failed tward the front between the water port and head oil passage.Didnt see any sign of oil around dizzy when I took it out for the repairs. So I'm leaning tward replacing the 1.50 O ring and taking the top back off and re sealing it.While at it I'm changing the oil pump. The old one was scareing me with only 20lbs and after warmed up droped to about 10.The engine seamed to have good power and crisp for no more time than I ran it.We may never know about the cause of the oil leak,I just want it stoped and stoped right. No junk aditives.
