What kind of Intake Manifold???
So Ima be buying a rebuilt carburator but was wondering if it was worth while to invest in an aftermarket intake manifold...but my question is that are there any manifolds out there that are street legal in CA??my main concern is just passing smog....my budget is around $100-$200...
also if not how do I remove my stock one so that I can give it a good cleaning...thanks! and is it hard to remove??
i got a 1984 Z28 5-speed

Re: What kind of Intake Manifold???
Yes there are a few; most offer little benefit over the stock one though, unless there's something irrepairably wrong with the one that's there. (broken-off parts, destroyed bolt holes, etc.)
Easy enough to remove... rotate all 12 bolts counter-clockwise. Installation is the reverse of removal.
For cleaning, I'd suggest first a trip to the quarter car wash, and stop along the way for some engine degreaser (diesel fuel in a spray can) like Gunk, the various store brands, etc. Even if that doesn't get it clean "enough" for what you're looking for, it's ahelluvalot eeeeeezier and less .... unpleasant .... generally, to work on a motor that isn't buried in 10,000 years of accumulated funk.
But cleaning it won't affect smog passage one way or th eother, unless along the way, you happen to find stuff that's keeping it from passing.

About the only ones are certain of the Edelbrock Performer models, the ZZ4 (which these days is identical to the Performer except it has a bow-tie cast into it instead of the "Edelbrock" script), and a couple of the Holley/Weiand ones.
As far as "performance", since the intake isn't The Bottleneck in the LG4, changing it out will make little or no improvement to any thing in any way.
Not sure about "relocate the EGR"; it is where it is for a reason. Even less sure about WHY such a thing would be worth the effort.

Re: What kind of Intake Manifold???
I am in agreement with Sof. Edelbrock has a program in parts for the Calli smog laws. Thing is manifold alone will not make much of a difference if at all. Edelbrock sells a whole top haft with cam that does give "some" improvement. But the operative word is some. No giant killers there.
