Put a new intake manifold gasket set on.Did it a little at a time,so I had to keep things covered up.Got her running and had low oil pressure and a small leak at the back by the dizzy.Went after the top side before going after the weak oil pump.Poped the intake manifold off and guess what I found?The paper towels in all but one of the ports over the cam.I feal soooo dumb!Oh buy the way my cam moves a little.You know sliding in the bearings.what holds it in place while the engine is running?The dizzy?I only ran it about 5 min. 2 difrent times.The ressone for the work was PO had blown the intake gasket because the put a wrong bolt into the intake manifold.had a failer at a water port and alot of water in the oil.I still gota take the pan off to see where the missing piece of paper towle went.Probly on my oil pump screen.

The cam should have some sort of retainer plate bolted to the front of the engine if its a roller cam chevy engine.

My Buick and Olds stuff use a buffer spring and a button on the nose of the cam to push against the timing cover.

making mistakes is part of learning, EVERYONE screwed up SOMETHING they have done working on cars, just learn from the screw-up and don,t repeat it,flat tappet cams have a very slight bevel on the lobe so the lifters spin in the lifter bores the pressure holds the cam to the rear

This is one of the 2.8 mpfi.the 89 fb.when looking down into the top of the block at the cam,I could see in the back getting close to the dizzy that one lobe was real close to the next lifter.the engine sounded ok when I run it,just very low oil pressure and of corse it got worse as it ran.So here we are.I moved it forward slightly and it had about 3/16 of movment.
