84 trans am fuel gauge problem..
Here's the problem, I've recently picked up this trans am that has had a fair amount of work already done to the car about 15 years ago. Well the car has been sitting in storage since then. When I got It we put motor trans in it and realized that the fuel gauge wasnt working.. So when I had the rear of the car jacked up resealing the rear end I figured I would find the wires to the sending unit and try to test it. Well the wires for the sending unit were nowhere to be found???? Not sure bout that, thats what brought me here, I figured I would throw the question out there before I go further. If anyone can help me with the wire routing of the fuel gauge sending unit(starting from the tank).. If its like most of the other G.M. cars than someone has cut them..?? And I will have to pull the tank.. Anyway thanks.

Cut ! Print It ! That’s A Wrap !
Sure sounds like the PO cut or removed them.
If that’s the case you will have to go thru the motions of replacing the pump, to access the sender.
They do go thru the interior however they start from the tank therefore if they are not poking out of the tank they cannot connect to the interior.

Here is what the wiring looks like on the inside of the car. ('85 TA ) Black Brown and Pink wires run down the drivers side and out to the tank above the hump.

Here is what the pass through looks like from under neath with the rear dropped and the tank removed / sending unit unplugged.

In '84 the wires should go down and back over the side of the tank (driver's side) and through the port behind the driver's side taillight. They should be pink and black with a two pin connector. If they are not there you will need to drop the tank.
