Does anyone sell a TPI lower radiator hose???
I just put in a new radiator and when i did i put all new hoses in. The lower hose had a spring/coil in it, and i know tpis had to have it to prevent the hose from pinching shut under throttle. Everywhere I called had the hose, but no spring. And the hose wasnt even the right one, it needed to be 'trimmed" to fit. Does anyone know where i can find one? Or have a part number? I called advance auto and the guy said it didnt need the srping, that they "reinforced" their hoses and they were strong enough without the spring. Well, skeptically I bought one and put it on, apparently the guy doesnt know what hes talking about because it still pinches shut.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Does anyone sell a TPI lower radiator hose???
The spring is used in many lower rad hoses to prevent the hose sucking shut when the t- stat opens. Has nothing to do with TPI or no TPI. The lower hose is common to most all chev V8 cars as the water pump and rad positions are pretty standard. The spring can be removed from the original hose and installed into the new hose. Aftermarket hoses are often cut to length as they fit several applications.

Oh ok, i didnt know that.
Majobis, did the one you bought from rockauto have the spring in it? Was it a direct fit or did you have to cut it?

I haven't installed it yet, but I just checked it; no spring in the new one. I'm unsure if the currently installed one has a spring. If not, it's never been a problem.

Just put a new lower on my car. Never had a spring. To tell you the truth, a spring on a hose that flexible, I just can't see it stopping the hose from pinching if there is THAT much of a vortex created by your water pump under acceleration.
What happened to the spring you had on your old hose?

It's been at least a decade since I replaced my hoses but I'm pretty sure the lower hose didn't have a spring in it.
Here's an interesting read:

Maybe this might work for you and allow you to sleep better at night. Just don't tell anyone you're running Ford resto parts.

Re: Does anyone sell a TPI lower radiator hose???
I am in need of a lower hose myself, but unfortunately this part#24132L does not come with the spring in it. I asked them to confirm that it did so they called AC Delco, and AC
Delco said that this part number does not have the spring in it. So it looks like im going to try and find it directly from GM and see if they have one or can special order me one.

Re: Does anyone sell a TPI lower radiator hose???
Actually, with 15-16 psi system pressure, no hose in the cooling system is likely to suck shut. At least not for more than a second when the t-stat first opens. Just the same, GM thought the springs were a good idea. I've installed more lower rad hoses than I care to count. Some had springs, some didn't. Never noticed much difference in cooling system function either way.
