what is this

i was tinkering around around the other day and i found a vacuum line? that was not hooked to anything thats attached to this thing what is it what dose it do

That's the MAP sensor. Tells the ECM how much load the engine is subjected to.

The vac line should go toa port on the rear of the carb, to the pass side of the power brake line.
