Need some tech help... (vids inside)
Everyone likes a vid.... But help me save my car!
So history of my isssue... I have had some posts in the past
1985 Camaro LG4, 5-speed
Computer controled quadrajet
Car had always had a little bit of a rough idle, but I had noticed the cold idle arm was not adjusted right, I fixed it.
Previous owner claimed valve guides were done, rear main and oil pan were done, and a new factory reman quadrajet, with less then 500 miles when I bought the car. I don't really see anything that leads me to believe any of this is not true, car never burned oil, ran fine, other then being an Lg4
Also bad bog, but carb was said needed to be adjusted. I work alot, hadn't had much time and its a 2nd fun car.
Either way, car made some noise, so I parked it. I looked into, found the coil was missing a ground strap, and coil looked new but cooked, one of the leads fell off, also the dizzy, would not move AT ALL. so I replaced, cap, rotor, coil, plugs and wires(cheap wires). Everything should be fine, on that side. I will assume the carb is fine, minus some tweaking.
Either under some load, it sounds kind of like detonation. There was some concern of a collapsed lifter, I ran marvel mystery oil through the car, drained, and refilled with 10W40, and a quart of 20W50 mixed in as well.
Fired it up today, and took some vids of what was going on, I adjusted timing both ways still same noise.
There is some concern of maybe cam wiping? Or something in the valvetrain, next attack is pulling valve covers. With a mechanic stethoscope, sounds like its coming from the left side, but can be heard on the right, can't pinpoint a cylinder.
Dizzy is stuck, won't come out easy, and the condition of the engine, not sure its worth tearing down and working it.
My original plan was to buy, the car, drive it for awhile and put a better motor in, but wife was pregnant a month after I got it, and she was unemployed for a bit, and I ahve been working 60+ hour weeks.
Part of me is thinking to figure it out and fix it, or have it sit for months, maybe sell it off.
Either way 2 vids of noise being made, I tried to show some of the exhaust, but I think its just moisture buildup in the exhaust.
