new 355 swapped in but no start

I recently took my 305 out and put in a 355.
I hooked up all my orginal ignition wiring and hope it would start.
I got nothing so my machinist gave me a coil and
A Mallory unilite to put in. I hooked it up and I got nothing.
How do I make it simpler or easier to start up.the motor without
Using all of the cars existing electronics.
It was a 305 carb with hei.
Any ideas?

Re: new 355 swapped in but no start

Not sure why the car's electronics are a problem here? (since they're most likely not)

Put the car back together like it was; stock carb & ignition system.

Find #1 TDC ON THE COMPRESSION STROKE; keeping in mind there's 2 instances of #1 TDC per engine cycle, one of which is the point that it fires, and the other is the point where the piston reaches the top as the exh valve closes and the int valve opens. Best way to find it is, take out the #1 plug, have your assistant BUMP the starter while you hold your finger over the hole, when you feel compression start watching the timing mark (which no doubt you already verified for accuracy during your build rather than just "assuming" it was right), and leave the engine sitting at about 15° advanced (BTDC); drop in the dist with the star wheel lined up and the rotor pointed at the #1 plug wire.

Then finish assembling the car, give it a coupla shots of gas with the accelerator pump (or just pour an ounce or 2 down the throttle bores), reach in the window, and fire it RIGHT UP.

Turn your ignition switch on... does the power wire to the distributor have power?

You won't have fire if the dizzy isn't getting any power.
If no power to the dizzy, check your fuses, then wiring, then ignition switch.

Pull a spark plug wire & spark plug. Reattach the plug wire to the spark plug.
Lay the sparkplug against a header. Have someone crank the motor.
Watch for spark & see if it dates & what color the spark is.
Yellow is weak blue is good.
