another 355 build

what is this a good combo
355, zz4 heads, 1.52 rollor tip rockers, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 288/298, Lift .444/.466, Chevy, pretty stock tpi, edelbrock shorty headers, pcmforless mail in chip and stock LT1 injectors. 9 bolt 3.27 gears 700 trans might go with a 2200 stall

summit cam link http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-k1103

the cam in it now has a lift of .454 with a duration at .050" of 216°. Thinking of throwing a HSR on it. I have everything but the cam and HSR. I was going to put the old cam in a stock 305 LG4 or what ever came in the 15th Ann T/A

the CR is 9.5 to 1
good combo
I dont care for 1st gen sbc so i wont throw a bunch of money at it.

Re: another 355 build

OK except a bad cam for TPI.

Not much better for "throwing" a HSR on it.

Just some old garbage generic throwaway cheeeeepo cam.

Look at something closer to a Comp 12-256-4... something designed at least within a decade or 2 of the introduction of TPI. Yeah the "specs" might not look all that different, but the CAMS sure are.

Re: another 355 build

**** converter choice. I wouldn't roll with anything less than a 2500 on the street, assuming it's a good converter... and 2500 is LOW. That was my first converter, and there's a load of better choices out there, even if it's a DD.

I'm sure there is a difference but what's bad with a cheap cam. I don't care to keep the motor for long. What do u think my power would be

Re: another 355 build

Ummmm..... the cam.

Those old generic grinds like that were designed with long slow lazy ramps for back in the day when there was basically nothing available except stock valve springs, and have WAY LARGER .006" ("advertised") duration compared to their .050" duration, than a MODERN cam does. For any given power level, they will give more of the "big cam" problems (low vacuum, poor idle, terrible fuel economy, etc.) than MODERN ones that make the same power; or conversely, for any given level of "big cam" behavior you're willing to tolerate, a MODERN cam will make WAY more power.

TPI in particular puts considerable restrictions on the cam. It's REAL EASY to make the car go slower by putting a wrong cam under it. Those generic cams are THE PERFECT example of THE WRONG cams for it.

Look at the cam I gave you instead, if you're going with TPI.

The HSR on the other hand acts more like a traditional intake as far as its interaction with the cam. Your main limit there would be your tuning ability. So right now, you need to decide how much "throwing" you're going to do, and pick the cam that works with that. S*** or get off the pot, as they say.
