Fuel System Issues, I think

Bought a '91 Z28, original 305 tpi, with tons of miles. 16x,xxx. Car sat for about 6 yrs before I got it. Bought it running as a rolling project. I drove the car about 80 miles the first day I had it no problems. Then the trouble began. I stopped and got gas, went to the parts house and bought a fuel filter and it died leaving the parking lot. Changed the filter, no start. Sat all night and fired right up the next day. So I dropped the tank and cleaned it, tons of trash in there. Reinstalled and it started, idled a second and died. If it sits overnight it will start, idle for a few seconds and die. Or if I disconnect the fuel line after the filter and reconnect it will do the same. Filter is good. Fuel pressure to the pressure regulator is there. Pulled vacuum hose of fpr and could barely smell gas, so I guess that is bad. But to me the symptoms don't fit. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the rambling but this problem is driving me mad.

run seafoam through the tank, itll clean the tank and the lines, depending on how well you cleaned the tank it may or may not plug your new filter, also any gunk in the system will make its way to the injectors, and may gum them up, if it hasnt been done already, so ohm out your injectors to rule out any electrical issues, and have them flow tested, or you can do it at home with a few home made tools, i used a syringe, can of aerosol seafoam, a 9v battery and an injector plug tied to a switch to clean mine, seal the red tube of the seafoam to the syringe(cut the hole large enough to seat it in the syringe, then seal it) fill the syringe with the seafoam, put the injector in the open end with the oring, hoseclamp it for sealiing purposes, charge the syring with the seafoam can, have the 9v and the plug wired to the injector, then pulse it really fast, if it sprays well and evenly its good. This is a total ghetto at home on the fly setup btw, there are much better at home options i could have pursued, or get them proffesionally done. ive also been told that a reverse flush wouldnt be a bad idea, but i got away with my method just fine

Best idea is to check the injectors with a meter first before attempting to clean them, if theyre not all the same or close, buy a new set.

OH! and before any of this, turn the key on to prime the pump and press in the schrader valve, passenger side on the fuel rail towards the back of the runners, might have a cap on it it looks like a valve stem for a tire there should be fuel flowing from it, you can rent a fuel pressure gauge from Oriely that will screw right on and tell you what the pressure is at the rail, if its low, its down stream towards the tank, if its orrect (40ish PSI if i recall correctly) its gonna be the injectors
