So my 83 was originally a LU5..

and it was swapped out for a Carb motor.

I have actually been wanting to swap to TPI from carb and I know I will need a electric fuel pump. I pulled the rear carpet and found no plug where the usual connector goes like in later years. No fuel filter in the usual spot near the rear wheels and fuel line humping over the trans tunnel to the pass side and return to the driver. Was this how the LU5 was setup? My vin clearly states a S meaning it had a Lu5. This is a 83.

Any ideas?

How would I go about hooking up a electric fp in stock config. Would I need the interior harness as well or is the fp harness separate. Same goes with the sending unit and gas lines, would I need to replace them?

Not sure about the wires running under the rear carpet, but the fuel filter is mounted to the engine block, on the passenger side, just below the cylinder head. It is in between the smog pump and the air diverter valve if I remember correctly.

All you would need to do for a TPI set up would be to drop the fuel tank and replace the original fuel pump with the higher volume pump for the 1985 and up TPI.

It is a common upgrade that even the guys using the LU5 engine do to get more pressure up to the crossfire injectors.

Why not use a inline pump?
