Where is the EST connector??
Hi guys I'm in a bit of trouble here. I'm doing my timing on my trans am gta 1988 with an l98 350 tpi in it. I just changed my timing chain, so I'm thinking of a fresh tune-up. The problem is I can't find The damn EST connector. On a corvette, it's supposed to be right between the valve cover and the brake booster with a tan wire with a black stripe on it. I found a single wired connector with a tan wire going to it, but no black stripe. I disconnected it with the engine running and it didn'ty change anything to my engine rpm, so I guess it's not the right one. Could any of you guys put a picture on this thread showing the EXACT location of your ***** connector cause I cannot for the life of me find mine.
I've been looking over all of the differents forums from various websites and I found a few different infos. Next to the left chuck tower, under the heat duct, behind the distributor, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I tried adjusting the timing without bypassing the ecm signal and now my engine is knocking... kinda bad. If there is no pictures available, could you tell me how to find mine? thanks a lot guys, can't wait for an answer.
P.S: When i disconnect the connector, should I do it while the engine is running or will it mess something up? Will it drastically alter the sound of my engine? From the info I found, I must warm up my engine, turn it off, disconnect the wire, start the engine, put it in drive, put it to 6 degrees btdc, turn it off, reconnect connector, unplug battery, start the car and then check timing. what timing should I have after doing all these steps? Thanks.

Circled in red in the two diagrams. Out of 1988 Firebird service manual from here. Should disconnect it while running. Check engine will light and then you should turn off. Should have instructions in service manual. Download it.

Re: Where is the EST connector??
Alright thanks a lot guys I found it. I slapped myself on the head for not finding it earlier, it was so evident, hanging on top of the harness on left side of the engine bay. honestly coudln't think of a better location for it myself. But are my procedures for adjusting the timing correct? thanks

Re: Where is the EST connector??
So I've done my timing, set it to 6 degress before tdc, replugged everything and now it says 14-15 degress btdc, is that right?
Also, I'm going to adjust my valves soon, so maybe that will help
