AIR Injection Pipe Removal?

Hi! Can anyone tell me if I need a special wrench to remove the AIR Injection Pipes? You know, the silver ones on each side of the engine that attach to the manifolds. None of my standard wrenches seem to bite real good and the nuts appear to me to be of an odd shape. Thanx!

Re: AIR Injection Pipe Removal?

The nuts started out life as hexagons, like any other nuts; who knows what they might have suffered over the years though.

The tubing is 5/16". The fittings are inverted flare. The nuts are (were) ½" hex. Use a flare nut wrench. Nothing "special".

I sure appreciate the info. I tried a 1/2" but could not get it to work. I tried both a 14mm and a 9/16" but both started the rounding process. I have sprayed heat valve lubricant on each one hoping to loosen them up. I managed to get one off with the vice grips! Thanx again.

Re: AIR Injection Pipe Removal?

I got 7 of 8 off no problem. Then the pax rear broke off in the manifold. Then the extractor broke off in the hole. I read here heating with a welding flame is the only way to break some of those loose. Thus my switch to headers...
