Car was back firing now it wont start
Hello everyone,
I was driving my car to the gym where it started back firing from stops. When I got to the gym, I shut it off and fired it up and it was back firing but started. Hour or so after I come back and it turns over but doesnt fire. While cranking it made a loud "pop" and I havent done anything sense. I got it towed home and took plugs out and saw it was running lean. I have a 383 in my car and it hasnt been running well since I have no tune yet in it. I took the cap of the distributor and it looked burned a little.Any suggestions?

Re: Car was back firing now it wont start
It reads like a pole piece is bad inside the distributor.
That would cause a back fire among several other items like the timing being off.
Did you lock your distributor in place when you set the timing ? It could just be out of time.
I would like to have a 383 in mine !

That could be from the pole piece bouncing up and down making the rotor hit the cap causing your back fire. It happened to mine.
