Re: Going carb fuel pump question ?
You are aware you have to drop the tank to remove the old elec pump because the mech pump won't suck through it?????
So you may as well install a in tank carb elec pump while you have it apart and forget about the mech pump.
Or easier still , keep the TPI pump and install a bypass reg to drop the pressure down to suit the carb

Re: Going carb fuel pump question ?
Your factory cam DOES have a fuel pump lobe for a mechanical fuel pump behind the block off plate.
+1 You WILL need to remove the pump from the tank.
I completely disagree: My
;
DON'T put some other Fuel pump back into the tank and don't bother with trying to regulate the pressure. An OEM type SBC block mounted fuel pump will cost about $35 and if there's ever a problem you can pull it off and replace it in about 1/2 hour - and you will never need to lay under the car to get it done.

so many of the tpi cars are sitting in the local pull a part. complete. theres so much that can and will go wrong with this set up that its a wonder ANYBODY wants one. (and it appears no body does) as soon as some mechanic says the words "data logging" or "you need a lap top to tune it" they junk it and move on. sad really
And i agree rusty not many people are wanting the hassle of tpi im in the uk and a mechanic frined of mine has already converted 5 tpi cars to carb because the owners were fed up of problems and driving issues. It is a shame because i had another 88 years back a stock car and i had no issues at all my current one has been a pain to say the least. Joined: Apr 2005

The fact the cars are 25+ years old and most commonly still using the original parts they left the factory with has no bearing on the problem?
If owners were prepared to put a few quid into the their cars they would probably go another 25 years fault free.
But in the US at least , they buy a $1000 car and expect it to run like when it left the factory when new; there is a reason it is a $1000 car ..........
