89 Camaro RS, Wont start Need Help!

Hello, just would like to say that im not very knowledable about cars. I kno some stuff but willin to learn and try anything. But the car has been sitting for a while now. Probably 2 years now. It wont start or crank. It gets power but does not crank. When i turn the key i hear the fuel pump turn on for 2-3 seconds and then nothing. All lights work/gauges. About 2 and a half years ago i replaced the heater core cause it was leaking so i had to pull the dash out. Im pretty sure it all went back the way it came apart. But just fuel pump starts up and nothing else. Im getting good voltage to the starter, and the starter is fairly new. I need some help cause im getting lost on what it could be. Thank you.

Connect a wire to the small (S ) terminal on the starter solenoid (should be a purple wire there ) and run it up to the battery.
Out of gear , park brake on , key on , touch the wire on the batt Pos terminal.
Does the engine crank over?
Does the engine start?

Hello again. Ik its been very very long since i posted this. But i was finally able to find some time and post this. I did what vetteoz posted and all it did was just crank. So any other possible thoughts. Fuel pump turns on. All lights work. Gauges work. Wont crank with the key. Just with putting power to the starter as posted above. Thank You.

Because that is only a test to see if the starter is working before you check other things

Need to check the the Ign switch operation if it didn't fire up with key on when you did the above test

I was able to get the ignition switch out fairly easy. When I pulled it out Small springs a small weight looking prices of metal fell out. Inside where all the tabs where the wire harnass connects on the switch. There was a grease like consistency. It was tan and a light greenish. Is this suppose to be inside? Inside where the connections meet the moving switch.
