Need help ASAP!

I brought my 86 camaro in for a tune up yesterday and I finally get a call back today and the mechanic tells me that I need a mass air flow sensor. He says the part is $450 and labor is an additional $50. Is he ripping me off? That's a lot of money for one part. Any input appreciated.

Check the classifieds here, you can find a MAF sensor for less than 1/3 of that most likely. As far as the $50 installation? That would be a rip off. It's two hose clamps holding it on. You won't even get dirty hands. Its the piece between the throttle body boot and the air box.

First I'd want to know how they determined it needs the MAF replaced.

You can get one from Advance Auto for a little over $200. $45 of that is core charge.
