500 HP with HSR and 383 ci?
I have a 355 flat tappet engine great shape 113 heads and what nots
I had some minor engine stuff sooo new engine came up
Looking at white performance 383 with 455 hp for 3600
Now the heads not so much I like the cam also wimpy close to zz4 cam
Soooo I was thinking trick flow 195 62 cc heads (good deal on a used set) and comp cam 292xfi hr cam. Top off with a HSR 30# injectors headers would be OBX 1 3/4 primary LT.

X2 find a local machine shop and build your own. Rest of your plan sounds good. That cam will need stout springs, you building a roller block or staying flat tappet?

I recently dynoed a complete 383 crate engine with those heads from a source I won't mention rated at 475HP.
It made a whopping hi 390 number & had oil coming from just about everywhere oil can leak including right through one of the welds on the trick valve covers
And the rear seal that one half of was put in backwards,,,,
Really nice piece
Sometimes you really do get what you pay for,,,,,,,,,,

Re: 500 HP with HSR and 383 ci?
Well I was talking from his uncle fred not skip short block 1869 the price is right. I have a 355 flat now and want a roller and 1pc rms so I can run a t56 cheap and make hp cheaper. Now a few things came up
Now one of my 113 heads needs some minor work thats why I switching setups
So should I rebuild my 355 80s block to 383 with retro or flat tap xfi292 and the same trick flow 195
Or buy a short block from white performance not skip white
I also found a stupid deal on a ls3 long block fresh machine work for 1800 omg a ls3. But if I go that route I would put what ever heads just to get the 355 running or buy 1 113 head or fix old one and run that for 2 years or so. Because ls3 would stroke it out to 415 and eBay turbo (not rich but got a few bucks coming)

Re: 500 HP with HSR and 383 ci?
X3. I have had a product from them that was nothing more than a chinese paper weight. Just talking with one or two of them over the phone may really make you think twice..... Another time I bought some name brand piston rings from them that had a gap that was too large for no power adder street use. I called them and discussed this and referenced a study in engine builder and another by speed pro about ring gaps in different engines (street, nitrous, turbo/super). They basically said I was wrong and they had never heard of any of that.....

Like they say get what you pay for that cheap crap on ebay is just that no matter how long worded the ad is.
I dont know why people still fall for thinking they will get a quality motor for cheap WONT HAPPEN.
Theres always time to do it over never the money though.

The link for the OBX headers isn't working but I believe that those OBX headers are very thin walled and the primary size is too small for power you are wanting to make. You will need some 1.75 primaries.

Its 16 gauge SS and 1 3/4 or 1.75. They are better than Headmans they look just like hawks SS but not for 1300
