lt1 starter with 5 speed
Anyone running a lt1 starter on a t5 setup? I put headers on my camaro and the factory starter is to big and wont fit. Thinking about lt1 starter. I know its the same teeth count just not sure if it will work or not

Any starter with the inline bolt pattern will work with your 153 tooth T5 flywheel

Re: lt1 starter with 5 speed
Why do electrical rebuilders list a different part # for auto or manual trans on 3rd gen V8?
4th gen starters make no distinction, yet are supposedly interchangeable on older SBC. Must have something to do with the shape of the body of the starter.

Re: lt1 starter with 5 speed
Exactly: on earlier year starters, the auto version was bigger around the nose, and wouldn't fit inside the T-5 BH. Later years, they dropped the misfit nosepiece. Most replacement starters will fit both although you gotta watch with rebuilds.
The LT1 starter bolts up to a T-5 setup just fine.

Re: lt1 starter with 5 speed
Just installed the LT1 starter this morning on my LO3/t5. Some of the wires almost don't reach but was able to get them all connected comfortably. I had to be careful the wires that went on the main lug weren't touching the small post the purple wire connects to. Bolted right in and required no shims. I got a used OEM starter from a salvage yard for $50 cause I will be doing a LS1/T56 swap within the next year and wasn't going to spend the $170+ for a reman for that short of time.
I agree with what i've read on this mod, if you need a new starter and don't get the LT1 gear reduction unit, you are a fool! My car has never started so strong in the 15 years i've owned it!

Re: lt1 starter with 5 speed
I have one on my old 69 block when I did a V6 to V8 swap with a T5. Just had to modify the wiring routing away from the headers, but it fit right in, and no shims.
