How to adjust / change a v belt?
How to adjust / change a v belt?
A painfully easy question for anyone that knows about the basics of engines (so not me then)! I need to change a belt on an 87 305 tpi Trans Am, which is for the smog / air pump - it's a v belt so goes straight from pump to crank. I have loosened the bolt that attaches the pump to the bracket but can't move the pump (there is no belt on there at the moment). The bolt is about half way through the adjustment track, so could go a few inches left or right. When i try sliding the pump to adjust it, nothing happens, just rocks the car from side to side. Bolt is completely loose, am i missing something? tried searching this site but all the search results are about people switching from v belt to serpentine
Don't want to get into a conversation about leaving the smog off - i have an MOT (car check in the UK that includes emissions) in about 12 hours so it needs doing to pass and thought it would be an easy job.
Thanks in advance!
