Really need some Fuel Pump help

Ok. Motor was rebuilt about 2 mounths ago. Fuel pump had started going out before the rebuild. So we replaced it a couple days after fist cranking the car. But since then I have gone through 4 pumps they last about 2 weeks then the car starts cutting out when accelerating. Have tried two differnent brands and two different stores. I have checked the fuel pressure regulator it doesn't seem to have a problem. Vent from tank is good. Really need some help can't keep changing it out.

Re: Really need some Fuel Pump help

Repeated failures after a short time period of different brands of pumps is no coincidence, something else is going on. Obviously after each pump change the problem is solved for 2 weeks so the problem is definitely causing the pumps to go bad.

Is the tank clean? Do you have the sock on the pump correctly? Are you still using the pulsator?

Are you replacing fuel filters also? If you are can you cut one open? If it's full, tank could be rusting out.

Re: Really need some Fuel Pump help

Fuel filter may be causing it. If the filter is clogged, the pump may be burning out from working too hard.

Re: Really need some Fuel Pump help

The tank was cleaned the first time and has been clean every other time. I replaced the fuel filter twice and it never seems to have any dirty gas in it. We took the pulsator out when the second pump went out and put some fuel hose as a bypass. But this last pump came with new rubber pieces so we put it back in.

Well in that case, are your lines all cleaned out? That can cause the pump to go out too

Re: Really need some Fuel Pump help

I'm just curious as to what 2 brands you tried? Are they cheaper than a quality brand? Is the HP on your new rebuild under 400HP? Maybe a partial pinched or kinked line making the pump work harder?

I had two airtex (I know they suck didn,t want to order one) and two delphi. The HP is still under 400. I will try and follow the fuel lines to look for kinks.
