Fuel pump or something else?
Fuel pump or something else?
Has anyone ever had a fuel pump go bad until the car restarts? Car in question, 1990 RS 305 tbi. I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and got 11 psi at idle. 9-13 is what it's supposed to be. After driving anywhere from a few minutes to a few days it stops accelerating, idles fine. So today I reconnected gauge and drove it until it started acting up. The gauge read o psi but the car was still running. I turned it off and immediately restarted and got 11 psi. I took off again until it acted up except this time when the psi dropped I ran a hot wire to the prime wire and got nothing, until I restarted the car.
Granted I am not an expert mechanic but I am also not a newbie. I have never seen a fuel pump act like that. I just want to make sure it's the pump before I go through the pain to replace it. So could it be something else? Also I just replaced the fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Fuel pump or something else?
I'd suggest a new filter first. Even with a replacement pump, you'd want to install a new filter, so doing that first might reveal something.
Another possibility is the electrical connections to the pump. Resistive connections can exhibit this kind of symptom, and again with a new pump, you'll want to verify the electrical system is intact.
