EGR Question/Engine Fire
I have a 1989 IROC-Z Convertible. Originally it had the 305 motor but I installed a 350 TPI. Fast forward awhile and one of my Fuel Injectors cracked and the rear end of the engine near the dizzy caught fire after fuel leaked onto the manifolds.
I'm doing a semi rebuild of the engine and the car was already getting several codes however it was not getting a EGR code. We are having a hard time finding the EGR items but after reading a earlier post we pulled a EGR Solenoid off a Cadillac motor to replace the melted solenoid. We however have not been able to find a replacement EGR Valve at any of the junkyards. My EGR Valve is the one with the sensor going into it.
Here is my question will the car throw a code with a EGR Valve in that does not have the sensor or will the sensor cause a code?

Re: EGR Question/Engine Fire
It's not a sensor, it's a switch that closes when exhaust heats it up. When computer commands EGR and the switch is missing, computer thinks there's and EGR problem and will set a code.
