connecting rod question
OK, it's clear that rods should be resized and to use new bearings when replacing used rod bolts and during a rebuild.
What if the rods have already been resized, installed with new bolts, never ran, and uninstalled? When re hanging them, is it still necessary to use another set of brand new bolts?
What about using the same bearings? The same bearings in question were also new, installed, never ran, Un installed?
Do I use all new parts (bolts and bearings)? Do I need to resize if it were never ran?
The situation, to clarify, is this;
I had an engine built, it sat for over a year, never turned over. It locked up dry. Since then, I have everything disassembled, and am re rebuilding it.
I just need to know what is appropriate action to take.

Re: connecting rod question
Yes you can use them. Once the rods have been worked they are good until they get our of round again. May take years of running to do that.

Re: connecting rod question
Rod bolts should be good since they've never been used. Even used bolts could be reused unless they have high mileage or have been over abused.
If the bearings are being reinstalled on the same rods and crank and show no damage from water contamination, go ahead and reuse them. Just measure the crush with some plastigage.

Re: connecting rod question
What they said:
The thing that makes a "resize" required, besides out-and-out damage, is pressing the bolts out and back in. That distorts the mating surfaces for the cap as well as disturbing the bore of the rod.
Just un-bolting and re-bolting em though, should be fine.
I'd use new bearings if it was mine.
