Need help guys. Oil pressure gauge was erratic. Had a new sending unit (Advance Auto) installed. Drove home with gauge working fine. Shut off engine and heard a noise. Searched garage to see if refrig or freezer was making it. Finally found that fuel pump continued to run after engine was shut off. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop! Any help would be appreciated.

You either have the wrong sending unit,or,your wiring is crossed somewhere.Possibly bad fuel pump relay.The relay should turn pump on for 3 to 5 seconds when switch is turned on to prime.If it fails,pump will come on when oil psi is seen from engine turning over.If oil psi is still sensed,pump will keep running.Ck all wiring to sending unit.Ck all your grounds especially.

 

Thanks, Joker. I didn't have the problem until the new oil pressure sending unit was installed. Now the Oil Pressure gauge is working fine but the pump continues to run after the engine is shut off. Maybe sending unit is defective/wrong? Didn't have the problem until sending unit was changed. Will check part numbers and get another OP sending unit. Nothing ever goes right the first time.
