whats this sensor?

and why doesn't my harness connect to it? the pigtail connection is different.

also, there are 3 wires on the passenger side that end right around the accessory brackets. 2 are identical and one is double pronged as pictured. I'm not sure where these go either.

Temp sensor. There should be a green wire with a white end that slides on it at a 90* angle.

Apparently sometimes in black but this is what you're looking for.

Re: whats this sensor?

You ask a lot of questions in this post, so I'm going to focus on the third picture, with the three connectors.

The two similar connectors, the round ones, are related to the A/C system. Lettering them from the top, A ,B, and C, the connect like this:

A goes to the front of the engine block, as pointed to in the first picture.

B and C are similar, but different. If you look at C, you see a slot in the round casing. B doesn't have that slot. It goes in the A/C line, attached to the engine bay next to the shock tower, as in picture 2.

C connects to the back of the A/C compressor, also shown in picture 2.

You've got custom headers, so it's not stock. Maybe you or a previous owner removed the A/C, in which case you won't have anything to connect B and C to.

Re: whats this sensor?

Joe already answered about the temp sensor, but one detail is that the wire should come up from the bottom of the engine bay, if the wire harness is routed in the stock configuration. You may have to get under the car to find it.

thank you but what exactly is 'A' connected to? it looks like the coolant temp switch pigtail but i already have a connector off the pigtail connected to the coolant temp sensor.

i swapped motors in and also put the headers on myself. when i swapped motors i just never got the a/c lines installed

well that makes sense, i was wondering why it wouldn't connect. Ill try to look underneath to see if i can find the missing pigtail

Also, temp sensor for what? i have a coolant temp sensor already plugged into the intake manifold…why do i need two?

Re: whats this sensor?

Sensor in the intake is for the ECM. The one in the driver side head is for the gauge. There is one in the passenger side head on dual fan and TBI setups for a fan relay.

Ok i see now. thanks for clearing that up. would my engine run weird if i started it and that sensor (driver side head) wasn't connected?

I had a 305 TBI but swapped to 350 TPI. Someone fabricated my TBI harness for the TPI, so i wasn't sure if some connections were obsolete.

Only for the gauge, nothing else. It wouldn't affect the way it runs.

Now I'm not sure how your harness was modified, but if you didn't hook the wire on the passenger head up, you probably won't have fan function. You would be ill advised to run it until you are certain of the fan working, especially without a gauge.
