valve cover + breather

A while back i bought the edelbrock open air element for my 91 caprice lo3. There was a hose connected from the back of the old air box into the passenger side valve cover. After fixing in the air element i just reconnected the hose and sensor. Everything worked fine until i bought the spectre 5428 valve covers. Along with it came a breather on the passenger side valve cover. So i replaced the hose with the breather... (i should have sealed the hole in the air element..nevermind though....i will take care of it). I do not know whether air was going into the valve cover or out. Since the breather lets out air i am worried if it is in the right place. Keeping in mind that the pcv valve was and still is on the driver side valve cover. I also having iac sort of symptoms like loss of power and engine revving at stop lights. Is it really the iac or could be just the setup? Almost forgot.... the valve covers would not fit like the original ones...so i had to rotate them by 180 deg.( hole on the passenger side is now in front rather than back....also on the driver side, oil filler cap is also in the front and pcv in the back..opposite of what it was before).

Thank you in advance

Re: valve cover + breather

I had a similar issue with my car when I switched from the factory air box to the open element filter. I had accidentally forgotten to plug the IAC back in and it caused the SES light to pop on and the engine to have a mind of it's own at idle. I would say that first thing would be to fix the hole you have in your air element and go from there.

I put the IAC back, no SES. I had done some reading here before getting the open air element and had read on one of the threads that he had forgotten to plug the IAC in and that caused the SES light to come on. I remembered that. Plugged the hole. It does not switch of now but when I put it in gear there is a loss of power. It comes close to switching off but does not. Also I cleaned the iac.

You may want to clean the throttle body and run some fuel injector cleaner through it. Running it with that hole in the air cleaner could have sucked some crap in and you may need to clean it out.
