305 replacement

hi im new here and i just inherited my grandfathers 1986 camaro z28 iroc z 305 tpi it overheated years ago and my aunts boyfriend at the time took the motor apart it never got put back together now i got it and theirs alot mising and i pretty sure its seized. im been looking for a different motor and i was wondering would any 305 block work with tpi im fine with swapping parts and i found a junkyard with a 305 4bc from a berlinetta would it work

86 + blocks have a 1 piece rear main seal.

85 and down have a two piece. you can use either or, but you will have to use a different flexplate\flywheel on the 2 piece block because your original one won't bolt on.

87+ TPI blocks were roller cam. I would find one of those. I've also found them in caprice's.

so yes, any 305 block will work. you'll just have to use the proper flexplate and cam for the block you have. other than that, it'll bolt right in.

the one i found is in a 1986 berlinetta same year as my car so would the flex plate and cam be the same the berlinetta is a 4bc and i have tpi anything else would i have to change

late production 86 engines were the first roller cam 1 piece RMS. if it were me ,I would look for a 87-92 305. you plain do not want a flat tappet cam block.that berli motor is probably not the one to go for.

i decided to just rebuild my 305 thats in the car but for the life of me i cant seem to get the exhaust manifold bolts off does anyone know the size of them and any tricks to get them out

pb blaster and a torch, works every time.
