292XFI cam +combo 1.5 and 1.6 rockers and supercharger
hi
I have "suddenly" come on hand a supercharger from vortech 8V1). Now I would love to get this on my engine.
BUT...
I need to build another motor.
So I have this:
4 bolt main block
I have a rotating kit stroker (scat crank, 4340 forged conecting arms, forged pistons 060)
but with a new build I want to use another block I have. this block have stock bore, and looks good. So can I swap out my pistons and order new to the kit I already have. without going totally wrong with balancing?
the cam I have is a XFI292 comp cam. I have done some search but can not find this in use with a supercharger. Is this cam "happy" with a supercharger?
The intake I plan to use is the one I have now holley stelt ram with a comander 950 (not controlling ign) ign is controlled with a MSD al6. the CMD950 have a problem with the ign controller circuits.
So why do I want to change the block/bore. well, I dont have to change the block.. But to use my 58 cc heads I need to lover the compression somewhere. New heads is expensive vs new pistons.
So what do you all experts say about this?

Re: 292XFI cam and supercharger
I'd swap pistons for lower compression and regap rings wide for the boost. Get it balanced. Can buy .060 pistons for first block or stock bore for the other, doesnt matter if both sonic check out well. Stock bore block may be stronger with thicker walls if your going for big power. I'd probably lean that way
How many cubes? What heads? Cam could work ok with a blower if over 383 cubes and decent sized heads else i think its big. Its also very aggressive lobed so with boost added you'll want a stiff spring and maybe even titanium retainers go keep mass down. Need more info on setup to be sure

Re: 292XFI cam and supercharger
thanx, so far.
I also think my cam is a bit big.
I have a zz4 cam I swaped for a "hot cam" some time ago. and stick with the 1.6 rockers.
zz4 cam
Adv. Duration I / E 275 / 280
Dur. @ 0.050 I/E 208 / 221
Valve Lift (in.) .474 / .510
then I can force some more air down the 210 runners in my 64cc pro comp head's. I have also modified the stelth ram runners to flow more air. (I just hope I can hold the gasket's with the supercharger.)
I found the probe piston 12344 to give me around 9:1 compression.
I have to measure the weight on this to ballance this togeter with my crank, but this can be done...
then I would e ok for some pressure.
the only thing I question is what cam to use.
the big XFI292 ore the smaler zz4 cam. maybe start with the ZZ4 cam and try the biger one later....

Re: 292XFI cam and supercharger
so after some more reading online, i found that exhaust opening need to be big/bigger than intake to get the best out of this.
lobe separation need also to be big.....
sooo I was thinking maybe I should go with some trick to the rockers.
if I use the XFI292 HR13
lift in 0.584 exh 0.579 separation 113
and then use 1.5 rockers on intake and 1.6 on the exhaust side. then I got:
in 0.548 and exh 0.579 separation 113
can this be an better idea?

There was an article on AFR s website about using the 280XFI with a roots style blower on a carb.383 engine. Made great power. If you can't find it I will post a link later.
