Excessive Vapor Venting From Canister

After pulling in to the garage today I noticed an unusually strong gas-scent, so went hunting around. I found that the vapor canister was venting a pretty large amount of gas vapor out of the open-to-air port (it was easily visible when shining a flashlight on it, and could be easily detected by scent). This may be because one of the PO's had the line from the tank attached to the open-to-air line and had the line it was supposed to be on open to air, so it could be that my canister got saturated from improper venting for such a long time.

What do you suggest as far as lowering the vapor? New canisters are around $100 it looks like. The filters are much cheaper, but it doesn't seem like the canisters are serviceable. Maybe I can snag a canister from the classifieds on here since everyone is always doing emissions control deletes?

I'd like to keep the canister, so no need to post the usual 'just get rid of it' suggestion .

Re: Excessive Vapor Venting From Canister

Once the CCP plumbing was corrected, has the vehicle been driven long enough to have a good purge completed?

There is no replaceable filter on that MY CCP canister, it is sealed on the bottom.

Check the resistance of the CCP solenoid. That is unplug the electrical connector to it and measure across the two terminals. The resistance should be in the 20 to 30 ohms areas.

If you do get another canister be aware that some solenoids are normally closed, while others are normally open. Need the one that is correct for the engine/drivetrain.

It would also be a good idea to check and correct is required the CCP plumbing. Also check the pressure control valve to make sure it is not leaking.

Re: Excessive Vapor Venting From Canister

The car has had plenty of time to have a good purge. Proper operation of the solenoid was verified at the time the plumbing was corrected by hooking it up to a power supply and seeing when it would/would not allow air through.

Is the mount for the solenoid the same for both the NC and NO solenoids? Since mine is still functioning correctly I could just swap it over if it is.
