Mass Air Flow, Consistantly bad

Over the past year, I've replaced the Mass Air Flow unit 3 times. Every time I received a standard code, checked the power and everything just to see the unit is infact bad. Now, this occurs after the car has driven or idled for 30 miles or so. So brand new out of the box it all seems good its not a sudden death. I don't have oil-ed intake or anything like that its all factory, yet it keeps "dieing".

Any guesses why these keep going bad I mean $100 a pop is not fun.

Is the voltage regulator good? Are there any voltage spikes on your electrical system?

now HERES a subject I know something about. are you ,by chance, buying "NEW" ones or are you going down to auto zone and getting "A1 cardone " re man ones?? if you are (and you say $100 .which almost guarantees it) you, my friend , are wasting money. no amount of cheap azz Chinese junk is ever gonna fix the issue. you HAVE to buy a NEW one. I suggest you go to oreilleys and buy a NEW "rich-porter" MAF and be done with it. you also need the burn off relay and the power one too. I have the correct part numbers , should you need them

I'm interested in that part number. I haven't had a whole lot of luck with the Autozone replacement. What about a new AC Delco?

ok boys, the "rich porter" MAF sensor part number is "MA157". the burn off relay is "R3009" and the MAF power relay is "R671". I get my parts from oreilleys. now these work with the 7165 ECM found on 86-89 firebirds and Camaros with the infamous TPI system. after MUCH money and time wasting, I have found these to be the best deal out there. no need to consider anything else. good luck with your cars

i forgot to mention the relays are BWD brand. and the stock relays will work. but i always change them ,just to be sure that its all proper. also, i crossed the part numbers from the GM numbers , so i know they are correct

Before you buy another MAF,did you consider checking the MAF Power Relay and the MAF Burn Off Relay??
