Power steering pump/reservoir rebuild

I just put a reman on my 92 Formula, but thought I might give up the $7 core money and keep my old pump and reservoir and rebuild it for the heck of it. Thought I'd take it apart carefully to see what ailed it. It was leaking, could be the front seal, but I'm not sure yet. Never done it before, what do I need to look for? The seal kit is about $13, but surely there's more to it than that. Wouldn't there be bearings too?

Re: Power steering pump/reservoir rebuild

It's really quite easy to rebuild. Even eeeeeeezier than an alternator.

I doubt the leak was the front seal; more likely, it was the giant O-ring that seals the pump to the reservoir. And that, most likely, is because the reservoir is bent.

Well, maybe, but it started leaking this winter and nothing has come into contact with the res to bend it that I know of. I changed steering gears last summer, but it didn't start leaking til about Feb this year, and I didn't do anything to it when I changed the gear. I'll have to have a closer look at it. But then you're saying all that's involved in a rebuild is changing seals?
