New Small Block 350 Heads

So I have come to accept the fact that I will need to buy new heads for my engine. I have a small block chevy 350. It's a TBI and is between the years 87-95. My camaro it self is 1989 Rally Sport. I bought a brand new edelbrock TBI intake model #3704. The only thing I need to finish putting my car back together is new heads. I am not the best at engine work and usually prefer body work. So I would like the opinions of some more mechanically experienced people. I would like to hear some recommendations of what heads to buy for my engine. I don't want to break the bank on these but I want a set of decent priced and better quality heads. If any of you need further information or have questions please feel free to ask and thank you all for your input and for helping me out!

Re: New Small Block 350 Heads

Any way you can send the intake back and a get a refund?

The best budget bang for the buck heads are the stock 1996-2002 vortec L31 350 truck heads, casting 062 or 906. You can pick them up used for $100-400 easy bolt on 40 HP gain, but they need a vortec style intake bolt pattern (only 8 intake bolts, rather than the 12)

The only heads better than those will be aftermarket heads starting at about $975 a set and up to 1200 or so.

Edelbrock E street
Pro filer 180 or 195
Brodix IK 180
Jegs house brand alum heads.

And if you need more than the .470 lift or so stock Vortecs can handle Summit or Jegs I think has them with over .525 lift capacity new for around $725 I think. You can not beat them for performance pricewise. Or if you can get a cheap stock set do the "ghetto grind" or beehive spring thing with em a lot of folks on here have done. I ran a hydraulic cam with .465 lift on stock Vortecs and had no trouble at all and it made a really strong street engine with good manners.

Another vote for that.

Get better heads, then get a 4-bbl intake that fits those heads, and a TBI adapter. I'd suggest a Performer RPM intake and Vortec heads (96-2000 truck).
