Timing question
Timing question
So I finally got my initial timing set to 6 degrees BTDC. I plugged the EST connector backed in and now the timing is around 12 or 13 degrees and my car started backfiring. Does the ecm advance the timing that much? Should I reset my initial timing? 92 Camaro 350 tpi. Thanks

Once the base timing is adjusted with the esc plug disconnected, when reconnected, the ecm will adjust the timing to where it feels it needs to be.
As for your backfiring, I'd check to make sure your plug wires are on properly. It's real easy to mix up 5 and 7.
You could also have a worn out distributor. Worn bushings etc.

Thanks IROC. I checked the plug wires and they are all correct. I have a distributor that I could swap in and test. Thanks
