Steel Sleeves

Anybody ever steel sleeve a block is it a good idea. I don't know if I'll be able to salvage anoter 455 but I can sure try if a steel sleeve for a perfomance build is a real bad idea. Never had this problem with 350 chevys if ones bad toss it aside and get a new one. All replies appreciated. Thanks James

From what I've heard, it's a pretty reliable repair method. The only drawback is that it's prohibitively expensive, shops around here charge in the neighborhood of $100 per cylinder. For what it's worth, I believe the aluminum LS1 block is sleeved from the factory, so it's probably OK for a performance engine.
