What is this sensor underneath the center ac vents?
I was working on my stereo and noticed a small 1/4" round amber lens located underneath and in back of the center ac vents in my dash. I was wondering what this sensor is for. I also had my dash off and noticed a sensor and wires connected to it.
it's susposed to supply ambiant lighting for the ash tray.. not much though..
just think.. if they didn't put it there the camaros whould have been like 2 dollars cheaper or something when they were new :-)

No thats not it. It is located BEHIND the CENTER AC VENTS. The best way to see it is to go out and look under the Center AC Vents with a flashlight and you'll see a little AMBER lens there. It is not something obvious like a light. It looks like a Sensor of some sort but for what? Remember, it's not anywhere near the Stereo or Climate controls, it is Behind the CENTER AC VENTS.

GKK, from what you've just explained....it sounds like you don't know that there is a difference between firebird and camaro interiors. Vader posted a picture of a bird, not the camaro. I'm telling you, it's a LIGHT!!!! It's a square cutout with a small 1/4" amber diffused lamp that is angled towards the shifter/ash tray. If you turn on your interior lights it should come on, mine didn't but it was because the wires behind it were cut from previous owner. Trust me, it isn't a sensor of any sort. Don't think in 91 GM had any interior temp sensors....for their h.vac climate controls which don't give a **** if it's 300 or -300 degrees. I repeat, no sensor, just a dinky lamp.
