Data loggers and cables
OK so I'm tired of throwing random parts at my 89 350 TPI Formula. It's got an intermittent miss that I can't pin down. I've been looking at the Moates cable and the data logger program. What am I going to see when I use these? Will it be like an OBD2

Think what you were surfing the Web with in 1989. (at that time I had a PS2 model 30... 286 w 1M of RAM)
That's the computer you've got.
Now think what you were surfing with in 1996. (By then I had a 486DX-50 w 8M of RAM)
That's OBD2.
Whaddya think?
The OBD1 data rate is like 90 baud or something; slower than you can talk. I think you can get about one full set of data (about 8 or 10 parameters) every 2 seconds or thereabouts. Good enough for steady-state tuning, not near good enough for an intermittent miss. Plus of course, OBD1 itself isn't fast enough to capture "misfire on cyl x" like OBD2, that sort of thing isn't even in there.

There seems not to be a lot of free scanning software for OBD I. All i see is TunerPro: http://www.tunerpro.net/. Not sure what Moates has just for scanning but they have a device they call the Ostrich to allow flash tuning on early ECMs - instead of replacing the EPROM chip. U should do some internet surfing for tuning as most of the tuning/software w/s will have tips and links for u to help sort things out. I like this w/s: http://www.lt1pcmtuning.com/tips/.
Good luck.
Good luck.
