PCV Valve Vacuum Hose question

Hey Guys, Yesterday I was checking over the engine while running and I noticed the vacuum hose on the PCV valve was sucking closed. It was a little soft I admit but I am wondering if that is the reason, or if I should be looking for something else.

I noticed that the car is running extra rich and can smell it. I was reading and some were saying that may be the reason its running rich.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: PCV Valve Vacuum Hose question

No, the reason it's running rich is cause you have a massive 750 cfm double pumper carb on a tiny 305 engine.

You will need to jet that carb way down and do a lot of tuning to the whole carb to get it to run right on a 305.

Replace your soft PVC hose and go from there. I always use rubber fuel hose for my PVC and power brake vac hoses.

Re: PCV Valve Vacuum Hose question

Wow! Ok thanks for that information! I bought the car like it is, so I will need to rethink that then. Car runs real good but man the smell will kill ya.

Thanks again!

Re: PCV Valve Vacuum Hose question

You can buy PCV specific hose at your major auto parts store, i.e. Autozone, O'Reilly, etc... I was having issue with my '85 Trans Am and replaced the soft and spongy hose. The hose has to be able to withstand the heat from the intake manifold and whatever else it is laying on. Otherwise, at least in my case, there is a vacuum leak.
