Wont idle after heater core install

hey guys,
last weekend we installed a new heater core and thermostat in my car which of course requires disconnecting several vaccum hoses. well all week when i start the car in the morning to go to work it doesnt want to stay running and idle until it heats up. its doesnt take long, i keep my foot lightly on the gas for maybe 2 minutes and then its fine. but it wasn't doing this until after the work last weeked. can anyone tell me what is going on here?
if it matters, there wasnt a thermostat in the car when we took it apart last weekend and installed one.
thanks

Usually I would say to make sure you don't have a vacuum leak, but since you say it goes away after the car warms up, I believe there was a recent post concerning this. Something to do with the car running lean. Is your car carb or FI?

its carbed, at first i was thinking it was vaccum because we did fiddle with a bunch of them over the thermostat housing. but then when i think again, it seems weird that there wasnt a thermostat in the housing. im looking at the stuff we did because the odds are slim that it would be anything else since it started the very nexy morning. so , unless anyone thinks maybe that the thermostat or lack there of would have anything to do with this idle problem, im going to re-double check all the vaccum lines.
thanks

I concur, the only way the thermo can control idle is through open/ closed loop operation depending on eng temp, definately vacuum problem.
