No tension on gas pedal

My gas pedal has no tension on it. Does this sound like I need to replace the throttle cable?

Re: No tension on gas pedal

Throttle cable only pulls. Springs return the throttle to an idle position.

Does the engine rpm increase when the throttle is depressed? If so then the cable is fine. If rpm doesn't change, check to make sure the cable is still attached. A simple clip may have fallen off.

Re: No tension on gas pedal

There really isn't any tension on the throttle, you should usually be able to pull up on it a bit. You'll notice that if you try and take the throttle cable off that you can hear the throttle pedal move when you pull the cable out, which is why there's the extra length in the travel.

Re: No tension on gas pedal

I just got my crate engine in yesterday so I haven't started it yet. The gas pedal only has about an inch or two before it would be all the way forward-it's completely limp which I know can't be right.

Not sure if you can see it in this pic. Car is a t5 so it's just the throttle cable

Re: No tension on gas pedal

Your throttle cable bracket is too close to the carb. You need to either modify yours or buy a different one.
Get a couple of return springs on there too.
