Morning all,
This is for SofaKingdom: I couldn't attach the pics and the data on the PM, so I posted this here for you to look at:

Looked up the block in the GM Block s/n listing and got this:

Looks like a crate motor, not original L98. Possibly marine. Those heads are said to be close to the 083 casting in an overall way but I've never seen a pair with my own eyes so I can't verify that.
If they are, should be OK.
The 880 block is the same one used for about all 350s (except LT1) from some time in the early-mid 90s on up. Newer than these cars.
Looks pretty complete... accessories, harness and everything.
The spooge on the intake china wall is kinda amusing but you'll be getting rid of the rubber piece anyway so that won't be a problem.

As always, thanks man. He stated that it came out of a 1992 IROC-Z. I asked him when I picked it up...I said dude, they only made RS Camaro's . He said oh. Now this marine engine thing has me a bit bugged. Think I should pull the pan, since the cast number revealed either 2/4 bolt main. It also has a 1/2 by 3 inch metal plate stamped MEXICO on it. Could this motor be from ATK down in Dallas? I suppose I could query all the stickers on this and see what I come up with. I also got some close up pics of the exhaust port. I haven't pulled anything but the TPI and Runners as well as the Valve covers.

There was no such thing as a 1992 IROC-Z. GM's contract with the International Race Of Champions https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...ider-iroc.html to use their name, expired at midnight Dec 31 1990. So the PO was lying. (as always...) That year, every Camaro was either a Z28 or a RS, as far as any kind of official "model".
ATK is a rebuilder. They acquire engines from out of vehicles (usually wrecked ones), and rebuild them. They do not cast blocks. Not a matter to be concerned with unless you find something stamped on the block somewhere that says "ATK". Casting numbers won't tell you whether they've worked on it.
Yes you should pull the pan. Doesn't matter about any of the rest of that; no one in his right mind, and least of all YOU, would go to the expense, trouble, and effort to put a motor in a car without looking at it first to see if it was any good.
Casting numbers don't tell you which main caps the factory installed on a block. The 2/4 thing simply means that it is known that some blocks of that casting # had 2-bolt ones put on them, and some had 4-bolt ones. Doesn't tell you which are on the particular block you're looking at. Gotta look at it and count the bolts.
Mexico is where many of the casting plants are located these days. Nothing particularly unusual about that country of origin.
The ZZ4 roller cam only came in the ZZ4. Didn't come in any of the truck, Caprice, etc. motors built out of that block. Frankly I'm not positive that ALL 880 blocks actually came with a roller cam; some might have been the late TBI motors with flat-tappet cams. I just don't know. Gotta look at it to see what it is.
Don't worry so much about all that "where it came from" type stuff. The parts have all long since forgot where they came from. They ARE what they ARE. Focus on evaluating THE PARTS as being suitable for your use, rather than on wondering about the stickers on it.
